Lanark County wins Silver Chain Challenge
Perth, ON – Warden Richard Kidd would like to thank all Lanark County residents who pedalled, walked, and ran their way to victory, earning top honours in the 2026 Silver Chain Challenge.
Over the month of June, 378 participants from Lanark County logged an impressive 31,673 kilometres, surpassing Renfrew County's total of 21,284 kilometres to claim the title of Silver Chain Challenge champion. The annual friendly competition encourages residents in both counties to embrace active transportation and healthy living by tracking the kilometres they travel by walking, running, and cycling.
Lanark County's winning total reflects the commitment of residents and visitors who explored trails, roads, parks, and communities throughout the region while contributing to a healthier, more active county.
"This victory is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our residents," said Lanark County Warden Richard Kidd. "Nearly 400 participants came together to make active living a priority and demonstrate the incredible community spirit that exists across Lanark County. Every kilometre counted, and every participant played a role in bringing this year's title home."
The challenge also showcased some extraordinary individual accomplishments. Lanark County participant Perry Rousseau logged an outstanding 2,271 kilometres, the highest total recorded by any Lanark County participant during the month-long challenge.
"The Silver Chain Challenge is about much more than winning," added Kidd. "It encourages healthier lifestyles, promotes active transportation, and inspires people to discover the incredible trails, roads, and communities that make our region such a wonderful place to live and visit. Congratulations to Perry and all of our participants for their achievements."
Lanark County extends its appreciation to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported this year's challenge, as well as to Renfrew County for another year of friendly rivalry. The County looks forward to defending its title in 2027.
