Zoning By-Law Update

Written by

It is Time to Review & Update the Drummond/North Elmsley Zoning By-Law!

Proposed Zoning By-Law Updates and Documents

The Planning Act requires municipalities to review and update their Zoning By-laws to conform with the Official Plan within three years of an Official Plan update. The Township of Drummond/North Elmsley’s Official Plan update was completed in Fall 2025. Township staff have begun reviewing the Comprehensive Zoning By-law.

As part of this review, staff are proposing a number of amendments intended to improve clarity and functionality of the by-law. Proposed changes include provisions related to hobby farms, accessory buildings, backyard hens, cabins, decks within waterbody setbacks, updated definitions, and other housekeeping matters. Updates to aggregate mapping and the zoning of existing subdivisions are also proposed. Mapping will also be updated to address areas of the Township where zoning boundaries are not aligned with lot boundaries or environmental features. The Comprehensive Zoning By-law update will apply to lands throughout the Township of Drummond/North Elmsley.
